October Newsletter

Oct. 17, 2005

Dear Parents,

It is already October. Where has the time gone? We are busy with so many projects and I want to update you on some of them.
We are taking part in a partnership with the Inver Grove School District. This partnership will allow us to go to Dodge Nature Center in West St. Paul twice during the year. We will meet our partner class of fourth graders, Grove Elementary, at the center to do team building. The purpose of this partnership is for children from different cultures to better underdstand one another. Our first date to go to Dodge Nature Center is Dec. 16th, which is the last day before our holiday break. We were not given any choices about this date, but I am sure that the children will be happy to go on that day.
I will need several parents to come along with us on this trip, so if you would please mark your calendars now if you think you might be able to come along.
We are writing autobiographies and we will attach our pictures to them to send to our partners in Grove Elementary. This will be our introduction to our pen pals. We will write a letter to them in the month of November. Entering our autobiographies in Appleworks on the computer is taking a good amount of our time. We hope to be finished with the project by the end of October.
I just received word that our two fourth grades here at Prosperity will have the opportunity to attend a field trip to Gibbs Farm Museum on Oct. 25th from 12:00 until 2:00. We will need some chaperones for the trip, so If you are able to come and help, please check that on the bottom part of this letter that you will be returning. I will need to tell you later if we will be taking lunches along on that trip.
Your children need to read 25 books by the end of this year. I have seen very few reports in my box for reporting and I do not see children trying to get to the computers to report books on the Reading Counts Program either. I am including the amount of books that your child has reported so far at the bottom of this letter. If your child has not reported any books, or very few ,I hope that you will have your child do some extra reading during the MEA Break which begins on Thurs. of this week. Your child needs to report at least one book every two weeks in order to keep up.
Thank you to all of you who worked so hard on the Candy Sale. We collected over $1000.00 Pakou Yang was our top sales lady and she received a trip to Aladdin and a dinner at the Great World Buffet, as the classroom reward. Each person who sold also received fifty cents per half case of candy for their efforts.
Halloween is coming soon. Children in my fourth grade will not be having a party because not all of our children celebrate this holiday. If we should have all of our letters to spell PERFECT ATTENDANCE by that time, we may have our popcorn party and movie ,as a celebration on that day. Right now we need three more letters. If you want to send a treat for your child to share on Halloween, it would be fine, but we will not be having a party.
Thank you for all that you do for your children.
Sincerely, Mrs. Geislinger
