| Integrating Technology into the Curriculum | | Mr. Taylor, Technology Specialist
Students at Prosperity are fortunate to have access to the latest in technology. We began upgrading our equipment last year and have continued to improve the technology available to our students.
1st grade students work together on their laptops.
Classrooms: Each classroom has a new wireless eMac computer with network access for a variety of applications including "Reading Counts" and Internet access. Additionally, each classroom has a minumum of 2 older, yet networked computers to work from. Students use the classroom computers to complete research, explore educational CD-ROMs, take "Reading Counts" book comprehension tests, work on reports and presentations, and more.
Media Center Mini-Lab: Our media center has 10 student stations which students can use throughout the day. These desktop iMac computers are only 2 years old and are wireless. This technology allows for the computers to be moved around for students to work in groups and also allows for the machines to connect to the network. Students can use these machines to log into the library catalog system. Additionally, students can use them to have access to the Internet, take "Reading Counts" book comprehension tests and more.

Lab Technology: Our lab has a wide variety of technology tools available for the students to use. All classrooms have a scheduled time slot to use the lab and a specialist is available to help integrate technology learning with what the students are doing in the classroom. Students use new wireless, laptop iBook computers, digital video cameras, scanners, and more. The focus is to teach the students how to use the technology to supplement what they are learning and to present what they have learned to others.
Working in groups with the laptops allows students to help each other.
Additional Equipment: We are in the process of implementing a checkout system which will allow students and staff to checkout technology equipment for periods during the day. There are 2 carts of wireless, laptop iBook computers that can be used as a group in a classroom or checked out individually for student use. There are also digital still cameras and digital video cameras available for checkout. Finally, there is a small library of educational CD-ROMs for students to use.
