Prosperity Heights Site Council Meeting
Jan. 23, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 6:20 by co-chair Becky Gonzales.
People in attendance: Diane Geislinger, Mary Bakken, Marilyn Lindstrom,
Sharon Freeman, Fanci Vang, Becky Gonzalez, Ana Rivera, Maria Ceballos,
Ana Romero, Karina Romera, and Norma Romera.

Principal's Report:
Mrs. Freeman shared the MCA test results with the parents noting that at our school we do not have an achievement gap. For that reason our school is receiving a national Title- One award. Sharon Freeman and Marilyn Lindstrom will be attending a ceremony in Long Beach, CA to receive this award and will be representing the State of MN and St. Paul Schools.

Sharon passed out a copy of the new superintendent's strategic plan. Members reviewed the draft of the plan. Parents are invited to a meeting on Jan. 30th at Arlington High School to give their input on the plan. The Key Initiatives in the plan were discussed and interpreted for attending adults.

With the passing of the referendum this fall the district will have an increase in money. How the money will be divided among the schools is uncertain at this point. Our school's budget will be given in April and Mrs. Freeman will be looking for input from the site council regarding the spending. With Kindergarten numbers being large this year, we may need to have 3 first grade classrooms next year. She also expressed a need for adding a Spanish speaking E.A.

Capital Bond Proposal: We will be proposing construction of two additional classrooms to house the 3rd kindergarten class and a room for the Pre-K program. Approval of the proposal would not be known until next year.

Marilyn Lindstrom went through the list of events that parents are invited to attend in the upcoming weeks.

We continue to need volunteers to work with children.
Parents are also encouraged to volunteer to chaperone field trips
The Parent Resource Room is open for borrowing educational games and toys.

Schoolwide Comprehensive Improvement Plan (SCIP) 2007-2008
This is the operating document that states our goals as a school and allocates the money to implement the plan. By the next Site Council meeting Sharon may have the budget for next year and bring proposals before the Site Council.

Question and Answer Opportunity: Parents attending for the first time tonight were encouraged to return and become involved in the site council. Lastly, it was suggested that the Site Council and PTG meet on alternative months. The idea was taken under consideration but no motion was made to approve the change.

The next Site Council meeting will be March 27th.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:15.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Bakken
