Prosperity Heights students
once again participated in the Kyle Peterson’s Learn to Skate Program. This free program is sponsored by the
St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department along with others.Over 50 students went skating at
Highland Arena every day after school for one week in September. This group, of mostly first graders,
experienced ice skating (many for the first time) wearing helmets, elbow pads,
knee pads and even skates!One
parent commented, “They look like mini robots on ice.”The students received much needed
exercise, became more confident, and developed balance, while having fun
playing on ice.Hockey players
from Johnson High School volunteered to help our students put on equipment and
learn to skate.Having a
background in hockey, Mr. Grant (Physical Education teacher) feels it is
important for children living in Minnesota to have an opportunity to learn how
to ice skate.
