Minutes to Sept. 18th PTG Meeting

Present:  Andra Wheatley, Crystal Rosales, Sean Kavaney, Karla Harris, Becky Gonzalez, and Marilyn Lindstrom

Mr. Xiong was unexpectedly called to attend the School Board meeting at the district office and could not attend this meeting as planned.  PTG president Naomi Jackson was ill and could not be present.

Marilyn opened the meeting to report a checkbook balance of approximately $1,666.  Several bills are being held for payment until after the carnival proceeds are deposited.  They total $533 for planners for 4th-6th grade students, and field trip busses approved last year for $490.  Our goal is to start each year with at least $800 to purchase items for the fall carnival.

We reviewed the carnival leadership positions.  Andra tentatively agreed to help sell tickets during the first shift.  Karla and Crystal will help with clean up.  Woodland Hills Church offered 10-20 of their members to help out where needed.  Andy from the Boys and Girls Club offered to run a game.  Becky thought she could recruit members from her church along with students from the college where she works.

Inventory of the prizes in storage needs to be done.  Several volunteered to help if this would be held in the early evening.  Marilyn donated a locking storage cabinet that can be used to house PTG items.

We briefly discussed the district’s wellness policy that discourages candy and junk food to be served within the school.  The annual candy bar fundraiser for field trips has not been scheduled this year, due to this new policy and is awaiting final interpretation from our principal.  Other ideas for a fundraiser were suggested.  The majority of parents agreed with the district’s new policy, however would make an exception if the school needed to raise field trip funds by selling candy bars.  Parents were opposed to selling catalog items to friends and relatives.  Candy bars sell themselves at a very low cost.

Sean suggested that school events end no later than 7:45, allowing parents to get their children to bed at a reasonable time.

Meeting adjourned at 6:45.

Respectfully submitted,

Marilyn Lindstrom
