December Newsletter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy Holidays! It’s hard to believe that the year is almost half over. We’ve had a great time in second grade so far.
We just finished a geometry unit in math. Your child learned about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, angles, line segments, and much more. Please make sure to continue to practice the basic facts with your child. This will help them as we do 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction.
We finished a unit on germs in health. We’ll begin a unit on air and weather when we return in January. Your child will do experiments with temperature and air. They will learn different types of clouds,etc.
We will work on non-fiction books in Writer’s Workshop. Your child will learn about the various features of a non-fiction book such as: table of contents, glossary, captions,headings, etc. Each student will research and write their own book about an animal.
Please make sure to send a warm coat, hat, mittens, and boots with your child. Your child will especially need these items as the snow begins to arrive.
This is a good time of year to restock your child’s school supplies. Many students are missing scissors, glue, crayons, pencils, etc.
I hope you all have a wonderful time with your children over the holidays. We’ll see everyone again in January!
