 | | The new citywide bookclub selection! | The book The Watson's Go To Birmingham is an excellent choice for this years citywide bookclub. It is story of a Flint Michigan family who travels to Birmingham, Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. While there they become fully aware of how violent Birmingham has become. They are there at the time of one of 18 bombings that occurred in Birmingham between 1957-1963. This book touches on many issues including the Civil Rights Movement, poverty and hate. You can find this book in the Prosperity Library, the public library and if you would like to own it go to your local bookstore.
Christopher Paul Curtis has written another book that may be of interest to you also. The book is called Bud Not Buddy. This story is about a boy who wants to meet his dad for the first time and believes he is the member of a famous band. It is a touching and often times funny journey. This book can also be found in the Prosperity Heights Library. Come and check it out.
Also, kids encourage your parents to read The Watsons Go To Birmingham. It is a bookclub for everyone in St. Paul not just kids in school. Who knows you might just remind them how much fun it is to read a great book!
