| | | Minutes 10/7/08 | | Site Council Meeting October 7, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Four staff members and twelve parents were present.
Principal's Report: Mr. Xiong informed the group that we are in need of a co-chair for the site-council. Background information about the function of the site council and the responsibilities of the co-chair were discussed. Parent, Karla Harris volunteered to co-chair along with Becky Gonzales for the coming year.
Mr. Xiong encouraged everyone to continue using their Target credit cards with Prosperity Heights designated to receive a percentage (1%) from the receipts. Money received goes into the principal's account for things like the ice cream social and pizza. Last year we received over $400.
MCAII Tests: Scores were shared and explained to parents in attendance We missed 4/36 targets which is why Prosperity is on the AYP list (schools needing improvement) for the first year.
Mr. Xiong then described the district's plan for increasing student achievement. Emphasis is on collaboration with special ed and ELL teachers rather than pullout lessons. Co-teaching increases the adult/student ratio in the classroom. It also enables the collaborating teachers to discuss data and gear lessons to make sure students learn what is expected. The district has also provided a math coach for our building.
. Budget: Our student enrollment is fifty students less than our projected numbers from last spring. This means our budget needs to be cut by $142,000. However, the district has agreed to give our school $125,000 to aide in stabilizing our school because of the change in principals with Mr. Xiong's departure. Therefore, no staff will need to be cut and the difference will come out of the Technology budget.
Family Involvement: Marilyn Lindstrom reported on the following items and events: School Carnival: The school carnival has been postponed until spring. New members and organizers are needed to organize the event. Volunteers: Prosperity has many senior citizens and college students who help at our school. More are always welcome. Parent resource room: Learning games and toys are available to check out. Family Involvement Partnership Team: Looking for more parents to be on the team and offer feedback to planning ideas. Family Support Team meetings: Students are referred by classroom teacher to explore ways to help the student and raise their achievement level. Principal search update. A meeting was held today for staff. The district support team is also looking for parent involvement in the principal selection process.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15. Next meeting: November 25.
Respectfully submitted, Mary Bakken
