Prosperity Heights Elementary is fortunate to include about 30 volunteers that help with various tasks throughout the school year. In honor and celebration of this service, a Volunteer Recognition Dinner was held on Thursday, April 18th in the school cafeteria. The volunteers were treated to a catered Italian dinner from The Little Oven. This dinner included a delicious meat lasagne, Italian salad, bread with butter and a lovely decorated cake for dessert. Those present were excited to receive gift certificates from local restaurant and grocery stores in a random drawing. Special recognition was given to Marilyn Uddin who faithfully volunteers an average of 20 hours each week helping in the office. She received a beautiful azalea plant. The guests were treated to a special performance by the flute choir of the Prosperity Band, directed by Mr. Scott Reeve. All performers received a carnation as a token of our appreciation. The Principal, Mrs. Freeman, spoke of the benefits of volunteering for both the children and the volunteer. “It can be a life-changing experience,” she stated. Many of the volunteers have been participating for a number of years. The Volunteer Coordinator, Marilyn Lindstrom, circulated a sign up sheet for the 2007-2008 school year, and each person present again committed to helping the students at Prosperity Heights. Thank you volunteers! You enrich our school!

Volunteer Instructions
1. When you arrive at school for your scheduled time, please report to the office and sign in on the “Volunteers” (black) clipboard. Please wear a volunteer badge while you are in the building. Return the badge and sign out when you are leaving.
2. Go to the assigned homeroom. Check in with the teacher. They will tell you which student you will be tutoring and give you any instructions on what is to be done. The teacher will tell you whether you will stay in the classroom, or go to a quiet place in the hallway to work.
3. Please check the school calendar for days off when you should not come to school. Also check the radio and TV for unexpected school closing due to weather.
4. Ask the homeroom teacher if your next visiting day is still OK. A simple “Is next week still good?” will require the teacher to plan ahead and let you know if a field trip or assembly has been planned.
5. Please call the school and leave a message if you are unable to come at your scheduled time.
If you have any questions or concerns about your volunteering time, please contact: Marilyn Lindstrom, Volunteer Coordinator 651/293-8695
